The first generation of women who grew up with the right to vote.
When I was a teenager, Mother told me that, when I got married, my husband would tell me how to vote. She said to tell him I would do that, but when the curtains closed on the voting machine, I should vote for whoever I wanted, and just lie to my husband about it.
The next thing she said is burned into my memory. "No one has the right to tell you how to vote."
My mother and I disagreed about almost every candidate, but she taught me to fight for my constitutional rights.
