5. Why do cable and satellite subscribers have to watch ads at all?

Before cable and satellite the excuse for ads was that they paid for programming and station operation so the public didn't have to pay fees for TV. Well, cable and satellite subscribers are paying plenty in fees but they still have to watch ads. Endlessly. What gives?

What I really hate are the useless fucking teasers: some ads, back to the program for "such and such when we return," then back to more ads.
