which I must know in the work I do, here are two reputable sources I found in a brief search for authorship. Evidently, this is from 2017, but it is still GREAT advice we should all take to heart. It has been attributed to Bernice King, but she has never claimed to be the author.

The first is from Ebony. It has some additional words from John Lennon that I liked:

Keep demonstrations peaceful. In the words of John Lennon, “When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you – pull your beard, flick your face – to make you fight! Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humor.”

The second source is the Washington Post (yeah, I know... but this was in 2017).

Thank you so much for finding this and sharing it with us, California Peggy! I love it, and it is even more relevant now than it was in 2017. It is advice we all need to take to heart, regardless of where it originated. (But I thought I should at least share what I learned when I looked for confirmation of its origin.)
