We don't know the motive. It might have been everyday rage or mental illness, having little or nothing to do with his role as CEO of a company that is part of an industry that systematically vacuums up almost 20% of everything that happens in the USA. But I do feel that the Trump era, all the normalization we have seen from Republicans and the corporate media have put this country on a path where this kind of violence becomes commonplace and even morally justifiable to some. Heretofore, nearly all of this kind of (presumably) politically/socially-inspired violence has come from the far right. If this one came from the far left (and we have no evidence of that yet), I fear that opens up a whole new era.
There are many people from MAGA/Q world who would welcome widespread violence and chaos from all sides, with their attitude of "burn the mother---- down".
