4. I agree; I think the main reasons were economic, not racist.

Sure, there are plenty of racists, and Republicans have sought to capitalize on it; and of course we should continue to fight against racism.

But I think much of the resentment that's been channelled into racist feelings was at least intensified because our economy has made life so difficult for the working class.
