On certain polls, I question the results, particularly if the poll is dedicated to landlines.
There is another "off", some people straight out lie. I just took a YouGov survey prior to replying to this thread.
There were some very interesting questions, some based on "groups", some based on children, and some based on the amount of thought used in solving problems. There were questions on Blacks, feminists, white privilege, violence, and gun control.
I felt that some of my answers were contradictory, but I went with how each question was asked. I don't believe any of the questions were biased, but I'm going to have to wait a while to get the results of the survey.
I cannot generally tell if there is any political motivation behind these surveys. But the questions are often quite intriguing.
As for the "standard polls", I do not personally know of anyone who has ever participated in one.
