GenZ Male commenting on misogyny in his generation: [View all]

Progressive Gen Z male here. The backsliding among men my age is primarily due to the breakdown of societal values and expectations, a process which stems from rising economic inequality.

The offshoring of 30 million American jobs over the past 40 years (many of them unionized and blue-collar) combined with the rise of the information economy has created a job market where good jobs are harder to find than ever. The few available jobs that pay a living wage tend to be office-based, "brain over brawn"-type jobs.

When given the same educational and professional opportunities in today's service and information economy, women typically outperform men. Women in my age group are just as likely, if not more likely, than men to be financially stable and independent based on their own earnings.

Women in America are also tasked with the majority of household domestic labor on average, and they are of course burdened with childbearing responsibilities.

So young women are now expected to be the breadwinners, raise the kids, and do the household labor. What purpose do men serve?

The answer is we don't. Women in my generation don't need men anymore. Forget support and protection - we are much more likely to be financial and emotional burdens on the women we date.

The rise of misogyny in young men is what you'd expect from a group whose value to society is at an all-time low. Many of us are not like that and welcome gender equality, but many others feel existentially threatened.

This was in the comments section for a column on the "manosphere" media.
I couldn't figure out a way to link just to this comment.

Men feel threatened?
So their coping mechanism is to take it out on women?
How very manly of them.
(And typical of every fragile male before them.....)
