I'm not surprised Trump is polling well. He's a strong leader. He's a TERRIBLE leader, an evil leader, leading us in a terrible direction, but there is absolutely a segment of the population that will vote for and follow "strength."
Right now, the democratic party is weak, floundering, and leaderless. So in addition to raking in the support of his own gleeful supporters, Trump is riding high with middle of the road folks because we don't have a viable alternative.
What alternative have we put up? The election was November 5th. It's now March 16th. Our response to the horrible things he's doing is... let's wear pink and hold up paddleboards.
Are we surprised voters aren't surging to follow democrats? We have no direction. Schumer and Jeffries are weak and ineffective leaders. Half the time, they're agreeing and pushing the dems to vote with the horrible legislation Trump is putting forth, which furthers the message of "this sucks, but both sides are basically the same so it doesn't matter who I vote for, or even if I vote at all." Bad look.
We have no strong leader for 2028 like Republicans had in Trump while Biden was in office. Everyone floated as a possibility has reasons one part of the party shoots them down (people proclaiming they won't vote for a woman, for a gay man, for someone who was anti-Gaza, for this, for that) and no one is really stepping up to lead, or if they are, they're doing it in a divisive way that will never fly with voters i.e. Newsom.
I am not the least bit surprised Trump is doing so well in the polls. I think this is a reflection not entirely of how he's doing, but also of the fact that we are DOING NOTHING in response.
