51. This is why I've felt heartsick since November

This IS the U.S. We thought we were better than we are. I feel like my upbringing — which convinced me that Americans were exceptional in a GOOD way — was one big charade. We really ARE this stoopid ... and I’m afraid I’ll never get over it.
