2. AWIPS went offline a few days ago I think, during some bad weather here.

During one of our recent storms (let's face it they happen multiple times weekly here in the NC swamp).

I wonder if that is the precipitating event for this upgrade.

And I also wonder if all of this is because of Eloon's mass destruction of NWS.
