MI-GOV: Detroit's Duggan (I) shows strong gubernatorial fundraising trailing close to key Democratic rival [View all]
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has raised $3.2 million over the last six months in his independent Michigan gubernatorial campaign, nearly matching the eye-popping fundraising efforts of his biggest potential rival in the Democratic Party and far ahead of his Republican opponents.
Duggans campaign on Friday announced that the mayor, who started the year with just $58,000 in his campaign coffers, is now flush with cash. Much of that was raised within the last three months, his campaign said in a news release.
That leaves Duggan with $2.3 million cash on hand with a little more than a year until November 202
The mayor was a longtime Democrat who stumped for his party relentlessly before deciding to run as an independent candidate for governor, which has rankled operatives on both sides of the political aisle.
