However, the current setup is a good compromise, with most of the year being on DST. It is great for those of us who work all day and like the extra daylight afterwards. When year-round DST was tried fifty years ago, during the Nixon administration, many parents got upset because their children had to walk to school or wait for the bus in the dark. In other words, it was safety concerns for children. That was the reason it was scuttled. It wasn't because of energy savings or lack of them.
