10. Self defense has always been an option, SYG has been pushed to avoid court

Cases that were clearly self defense were still brought to trial to to allow a full airing of all sides and to allow the victim who died to be respected in our judicial system.

SYG is a short cut to that determination and has clearly been abused by some to avoid the scrutiny that a trial would bring. Many claim that the courts have been flooded with trivial cases and SYG has aided the judicial process.

The reality is that the courts are flooded with trivial drug possession cases exaggerated by minimum sentencing laws. The idea that an action that resulted in a person's death should be fast tracked so we can sentence a pot smoker to 10 years is totally messed up.
