about Bergdahl in our government until 2013, except probably Obama himself and some of his staff, and some in the military. Bob Gates and Leon Panetta were the firewalls that would prevent any deal from happening--and they also weren't going to stage a direct rescue, either. They weren't going to lift a finger to help this kid once it was known he was in Pakistan, beyond keeping tabs on him with intelligence and special forces. McCain declared any such prisoner swap "dead" in late April, just six weeks ago. He and everyone else knew that a rescue would be near impossible and potentially deadly, and there was really no other way to get Bergdahl back alive than swap prisoners. But that's the point--they only paid lip service to getting this guy back, they didn't want it to actually HAPPEN.
