(39,215 posts)14. He is referring to two old religious traditions that have nothing to do with what type of nation our
nation is. The Old Testament forbids Jews to eat pork and many follow that tradition even today. Apparently Muslims also do not eat pork.
On the other hand Christians had a tradition of eating ham on Easter to symbolize their freedom from Old Testament ceremonial laws and some still follow this practice. My family does. My guess is that most people do not even know why ham is eaten on Easter so for them it is not connected to any religion.
What Fischer is forgetting is that a whole lot of people eat pork who do not believe in any religion. My guess is that they are in the majority.

yes, though meat processing is not as good. so i would not eat cows/pigs in kol.
