The basic political idea currently driving the most boorish teahadist and the most erudite economists at the IMF is "they" are lazy, and spending on them must stop".

The drift toward the virtue of selfishness was facilitated thru manipulating tax policy to allow capital to accumulate without parallel contributions to society. There can't be caring in the welfare of others if all advantage is given to selfishness.

To prevent excessive break away wealth, taxation must progressively rise to an inescapable 50+% for the wealthiest

But, of course, that can't happen with legislatures dominated by those who serve the selfish.
