.... it was Reagan who signed the law taxing social security benefits.

Up until that point, I was forbidden to discuss politics with "that side" of the family. We were having lunch minding our own business eating pizza when he launched in to a tirade about paying taxes on his benefits and how it was Clinton's fault and the god damned Democrats. When I pointed out who signed it he went all sputter lipped and said "no way buddy!!!"

My partner and I ran to the store to pick something up. When we returned, he apologized and had this look of amazement that "I can't believe Reagan would sign that." He looked it up when we were gone (so did I to be sure). The boyfriend said I should feel special - he never saw him apologize like that.
