(103,856 posts)The ONLY way I've come up with to feel better about these situations is to tell myself that their life would have been so much shorter/bleaker had we not rescued them (all our pets have been rescues),, and we gave them all we had, but mother nature always "wins"..
and the fact that they do not know they are dying..
Veterinary euthanasia is actually quite a blessing. Each time I have held them in my lap or sat on the floor cradling their head as they drifted off..without pain.. There is pain.. OURS ! but even that is a blessing because it reinforces how much we loved them and how much they will be missed..
My 40 year old son still has his dog's collar hanging on a peg in his kitchen.. Blanca died decades ago
No matter how long ago they passed, they are still alive in our hearts..
