(24,852 posts)40. Why support make believe? It really doesn't help.
In fact, studies have shown that sick people who are religious and know people are praying for them do WORSE in their recovery than do those who aren't believers in prayer.
If we really wanted to help people like Pres Carter, we'd forego the make believe that is prayer because it's actually hurting the patient.
But, no, religion gets a special carve out in this country, no matter how destructive it is. Exactly how much are you respecting Pres Carter by engaging in prayer when it's been shown to be counterproductive in healing the sick?
