4. i don't intend to buy tickets this far in advance, but what is the problem with it?

Concerts. Theatrical productions. All sorts of events sell tickets weeks or even months in advance. Selling tickets in advance makes it possible for people who can't spend days in line to be among those first to see the movie if that's what they want.
