My guess is that there was nobody else in the house, and that the gun's owner is in fact the "law enforcement" mentioned.

Cops like to shoot first and ask questions later, so I believe that is exactly what happened in this case.

Too bad the "intruder" turned out to be a family member. Oh well, at least she'll probably get to keep her gun, and her job, so she'll live to shoot another day.

Children come and go, but guns are forever.
