(64,661 posts)by federal, state and local governments. They were often found jobs that they could do that wouldn't strain them yet would contribute.
My wife had a brain bleed during birth of our youngest. She continued to work at her job for 15 years though some of the duties were changed slightly to accommodate her handicap.
Then BAM! new rules based on efficiencies etc. and in a month she was home doing nothing, collecting disability and feeling like yesterday's garbage thrown out and useless.
Whn I was young I remember my dad and his frequent trips to the state run liquor store. All the guys (all men back then) were disabled, many from the war. they were slow, sometimes cantankerous, but they all had the dignity of a job.
Now we can't do such things because we have to cut taxes for the rich.
Sounds to me like that guy wants to contribute and have the dignity of a job where he is needed by society.
