May 5, 2016 - A remarkable wardrobe discovery from a 17th-century shipwreck in the Waddenzee, in the northern Netherlands, reveals how nobles dressed at the time, providing additional physical evidence consistent with paintings from the period. Among the findings is a well-preserved gown that is believed to have belonged to a member of the English royal court of Queen Henrietta Maria. One of her baggage ships sank en route to the Netherlands during a secret mission to sell the crown jewels in order to buy weapons for the English Civil War.
