I haven't sung it since the 70s, when I used to play my mom's Tapestry LP over and over and over, loving every song, but that one always made me cry, because I always, always, wanted someone who had my back; not a "friend" like we make in middle school, but someone whose name I could call out in a time of need.

I've had a mostly good, if hard life, but I've never had that person, except now in my grown sons.

I haven't listened since the 70s, but I can still sing it word for word. And while I still love it, I didn't really love it here. It doesn't fit. It left me with the same feeling when I see an old favorite usurped for some blatantly commercial purpose on tv. I guess it wouldn't bother me if I thought it fit the situation.
