59. I have almost the same situation you describe going on minus the disengagement (so far).

Me and the ex "adopted" this individual and supported her, gave her a place to live, fed her, hell, I even paid for the boob job she just had to have even though they were fine to begin with, IMHO. The girl is a clothes horse.

Happily helped raised her two kids too but when she graduated college, got a job and moved out, and for awhile there, pretty much the only time we'd hear from her was when she needed something.

My ex is still very engaged with her, almost to the point of co-dependency, and we love the "grand babies" so we decided just to not to talk politics and she doesn't either when we're together.

But all one has to do is go to her Facebook page and there it is...

Now, every time she has a "crisis", (like once a week) off goes the ex but when the ex has a problem does this individual ever jump at the chance to finally pay back some of the love she was (and still is) freely given?

I really feel like I need to point this out to a few enablers.

Anyway, too long a rant, thanks for pointing out the issue and the therapy session, lol.
