18. Know where "Old Wives' Tales" comes from?

Old Wives were the village midwives and root doctors. They brought babies, nursed the sick, and generally were around in people's' houses for long periods of stressful times. Naturally they saw a lot. So to circumvent anyone finding out their secrets, instead of respecting these women rumors were spread that you couldn't trust anything they said, that their wisdom was suspect. After a while they became so suspect they were burned as witches.

So yeah, we're all civilized now.
