(10,494 posts)One thing that I have learned is that these type of Republicans are so uneducated they don't see anything until it affects them, then they cry and bitch like crazy!
I remember one elderly couple that came to me because of an alleged medical malpractice claim for the wife. This was about a year after a severe medical malpractice tort reform law was passed in Texas. She had never worked outside of the home and was blaming her surgeon for a bad result. I explained that I would not take their case and her husband became very aggravated with me telling me that unlike my other cases, hers was legit. I said, "So you think I am a crook yet you come to me anyway?" At this point I was a little upset!
I then explained that the tort reform movement was not "Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse", it was insurance companies and corporations against having to pay for medical negligence and I explained in more detail why I refused her case. By not having lost income, since she had not previously worked, just like many children, retirees, and stay at home spouses like this lady was, it reduced the value of her case. Also, with a cap of $250,000 if we hit a home run, the high costs of bringing the suit, especially expert witness fees and attorney's fees she would not put much if anything in her pocket.
Her husband said he thought that was only for frivolous cases, for the moochers. I told him that the claim of too many frivolous cases being filed was pure propaganda. "They used you for your vote which now hurts you and many, many others! We only get paid if we recover money for our clients and we front the case expenses and only get those back if there is a recovery. Why would we file a bunch of cases that won't get paid and the judge would just throw out?
I told them they had been used, that the insurance companies and companies like the Koch's lied to them and they fell for it. They left wondering what to believe and I am sure it took a few other attorneys telling them NO for it to sink in.
Just had to rant about how these ignorant people lack the desire for critical thinking. It has to hit them over the head for them to turn on Republicans, even then many will not. They are too concerned with others they perceive as getting something that they themselves don't get!
