(11,730 posts)You remove the president from office, then you have a fair trial and if that fair trial on weight of the evidence leads to a conviction, then you impose a sentence on the offender.
The idea behind impeachment and trial is that NO ONE is above the law, not the executive, not representatives, not senators, and not judges. I understand the sentiment of not wanting the process to turn to a particularly partisan one, but that is what the voters are for. If your representative are merely playing cynical political games, then they are not representing you and you need to vote them out.
I do agree, much to my disappointment, with your sentiment. It is idealistic for people to think that a legal justice process would not devolve into partisan fighting because we are very tribal. I would prefer that every American from the wealthiest and most powerful, to those with the least of means, would be treated equally by the law, but again, that is naive.
I would add that the hyperbole is not helpful, even though you are trying to make a point it comes of as condescending.
