He didn't even use a firearm on his victim.

I'm sure the Republicans will say he's fine, and just the victim of another witch hunt by the liberal media.

If, by any chance, this should actually dim his chances in Florida or California, he can always run for the US Senate in Alabama. It appears that Alabama Republicans like guys like this.
