from people in the Inspector General's office to not say anything about re-opening the investigation into Clinton's emails after the Anthony Weiner computer fiasco. Since they had no idea what was on the computer and what the emails were about, he was advised to remain silent. Comey didn't. He opened his big mouth 11 days before the election and the rest is history.

I don't think you ,"would have probably done the same in his shoes" after receiving advice to not open his mouth. You're not that dumb, or partisan, whatever the case may be. Comey was a loose cannon with a big mouth, and although not in the same league as Trump when it comes to narcissism, he certainly like the sound of his own voice.
