Rep. Steve Womack’s son sentenced to 9 years on gun and drug charges after plea agreement
BY David Ramsey ON April 18, 201910:00 am

James Womack, the 31-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Steve Womack, was sentenced to nine years in prison last week on felony drug and gun charges. Womack pleaded guilty last week in Benton County Circuit Court after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Womack was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a counterfeit substance with the purpose to deliver, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Steve Womack issued the following statement to KARK regarding the sentence of his son:

My family, like so many others across the nation, has experienced the devastation of a loved one’s addiction. Our son is accountable for his actions, and we respect the decision of the court. We continue to love him unconditionally and remain hopeful that he will find the recovery needed to set him on a new path forward.

In 2010, James Womack plea bargained a meth case and received what appeared to be special treatment, moving to the head of the line for a 105-day boot camp program that allowed him to avoid a 10-year sentence.
