Yes, there is some racism, like everywhere, but I don't think it's as racist as some states in the north. The African American population is concentrated in the Delta and Jacksonville areas which are heavily Democratic. In my opinion its more about maintaining the local power structure, particularly cronyism. The most racist place I have lived was in northern Wisconsin. It was the poorest county in the state and didn't even have a Democratic party. Sean Duffy territory. Everything was corrupt and still is.
