(12,646 posts)And adopting children from foreign services is not only cheaper, there's less of a chance the birth parents or kin might come looking for the baby later on, especially if the foreign agency they adopted from was basically selling kids put into their care by working parents or "social services" when there was no other option to leaving the kids home alone for a period of time. If the family couldn't pay for the kids care, these organizations just sell them to whomever pays the asking price.
This used to happen in the US. Families would buy "orphans" from the big cities to be raised as farm help or servants, all the while parading those kids around as some sort of "good deed". I don't know if that in some communities, it still occurs, bit it wouldn't surprise me one bit
She and her husband bought those kids, for whatever reason. I'm not saying what it is, but I'm wondering why this well to do family didn't adopt locally or from the US, where there are just as many deserving kids who really need a stable, loving family.
