Japanese company vows U.S. Steel would be American-run as election-year takeover faces mounting opposition

Evidently Nippon Steel is trying to sidestep this tariff.

U.S. Steel needs to modernize its production methods to cut costs and reduce pollution. The question is whether it can do this on its own. The tariff may be intended to give it an opportunity.
