4. I liked the way the Germans charge VAT

There's another word they use now, but when I lived there it was called Mehrwertsteuer or MwST. It was already added into the price of the item, so if you bought an item with a DM25 price tag you paid DM25. None of this "we charge taxes separately so you can get mad at the government" shit they do in the US.

Basically, it's a federal sales tax. I can only assume it was divided between the federal government and the state, but that's how they do it there. And they didn't fall into the "we can replace income tax with sales tax" lie that the "FairTax" people want to try - not only does Germany have an income tax they are not shy about charging it.
