of one arm. Her crew thought she was dead, but they brought her back anyway, and she recovered.

I heard her speak about six years ago at an Illinois Democratic Women's event. She stayed around and spoke with everyone informally, too. At the time, she was working for Veteran's Affairs. There were state senators and reps there. When she needed to talk to them about veterans' needs, we stepped back and let her do her work. She had quite a bit of information about head injuries to soldiers, and she wanted to make sure the legislators knew what was needed, so they could get more help for those injuries.

She spoke to us about women's leadership rather than politics. Women in leadership roles have to approach things a bit differently than men. That is especially true in a male dominated institution like the military.

Everyone respects Tammy. Congrats to her and her husband.
