I was in college when this BS hit the fan, and a good friend of mine went to see them in concert shortly after the Newsweek article came out. When Peter (I think) introduced this song, he commented on the article, siting the same lyrics mentioned in the article. He said that you can interpret a lot of lyrics that way if you really tried. They then launched into The Star Spangled Banner, and basically showed how it was one long drug reference, starting with "Oh say can you see..." See? You mean "C"? Because that can stand for "cocaine". Can't remember all the references, but as you can well imagine, my friend said they rocked the house.
