These folks don't care how he won--all they care about is that he did win. Collusion with Russia? No problem. Funneling of foreign money to the Trump campaign via the NRA? No problem Blatant racism? Sexism and misogyny? Encouragement of violence against protestors? Ruling by fiat? Subversion against the mission of core federal departments such as the EPA, the Department of Education, HHS, HUD? Not an issue. Defunding the government with a tax cut the rich and the corporations didn't even need? Hey, I got my $1.50 per week!
These are the people that have always been here. The Tories that have always lived among us. These are the citizenry that show us just how fragile our republic is and always has been.
Most people couldn't give a flying fuck about civil liberties and oppression of minorities. Hell, their ox isn't getting gored. They are comforted that even when they may not being doing that well they will be allowed to discriminate and they will retain and benefit from the white bias baked into everything.
In their view, Obama was pushing things way too far. The 60's were bad enough but then it really got real when a black guy who used big words and had gone to the best universities and just seemed...better than them ended up running the place.
You know what they called him in their hearts and in their minds and what they called him out loud when they were with people like them.
They don't care about the things Trump does because they think he's just like them. He speaks English like it is a second language. Most of what he says doesn't make a whole lot of sense. He sounds like everybody's drunk, bigot uncle at a holiday dinner. They think because he sounds crass and unsophisticated and sexist and bigoted and xenophobic that they can do the same.
The only way they'll turn on him is if they ever figure out that he simply doesn't give a shit about them and their kids and what happens to them. It'll happen when the economy turns to shit and he and his cronies do nothing to save any of them as they fall through all the cracks in safety net that he's creating.
