And octopuses live for only a few years (octopi really should be octopodes because octopus is a Greek word and not a Latin one, but in English it's octopuses, and this is me being pedantic). Dolphins live longer but they're in the water and don't have thumbs. Crows are better able to manipulate tools so they might be more likely to be able to build things.

I'm still convinced cats would take over the world if they had thumbs - not because they're smarter than these other creatures but because they are probably more motivated.
