I love a good science fiction tale if the authors get most of the Science right. I love a good fantasy, such as Harry Potter or Tolkien's Ring, where the authors create a consistent and logical universe for their stories. And I do love a good supernatural scary movie/novel/TV show if there's an exciting and coherent tale behind the inevitable gore and violence.
In reality, I just don't believe there are ghosts or spirits existing amongst us. They could be here in some extra dimensions but there aren't any scientific observations, only anecdotal ones.
In one of his lectures, Lawrence Krauss observes that eye-witness testimony carries profound weight in our legal systems. In Science, however, eye-witness testimony is laughably ineffective. That's why we have to build machines like the Hadron collider or the LIGO gravitational wave detectors: our human senses are incapable of detailed observations.
