(42,862 posts)Our humble home and humble belongings are "protected" with video cameras inside and out... all directions.
My husband wanted to mount cameras throughout the entire house to record EVERYTHING, but I objected. The compromise was that the indoor cameras would cover activities in the garage and at the front door, back door, and laundry room (mud room) entrances. But NOT record everything that happens in the house other than the comings and goings.
It was a nice Lorax system from Costco (sixteen cameras) and even though it's not perfect or foolproof... our goal is to DETER criminal activity. Nothing will prevent it. Maybe it's just "security theater" that does nothing except make the homeowner "feel" safe.
Because even a clear image of the criminal's face will ONLY help in court IF they can be caught or ID'd in the first place.
I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with the break-in. Glad that nobody was home and that nobody got hurt.
