Of course I miss the usual activities, the visiting, the dropping by for coffee, etc. But what really hits home for me is the emotional isolation, the inability to express basic human caring. Case in point -- a dear friend just lost a family member to cancer; I'm supposed to be one of the first ones there to offer a hug, a shoulder to cry on for as long as needed. Somehow a phone call feels so inadequate. I hate that.
