(8,445 posts)I'm so sorry about your brother. Was it difficult for Kyra to adjust to dry land?
My Callie is pretty feral. Her mom, Speckles, hid the kittens when they were a week old, and didn't bring them back around until they were two months old. I had to trap them to get them spayed/neutered. I kept them in my office for a whole month, and went in and hung out and played with them for hours every day, but they have never warmed up to the point where they can be petted. I still enjoy their company. Speckles is very tame and sweet.
They've all been having somewhat of an attitude for the last few days because I've had to lock their main entrance into the house at night in order to keep out raccoons. I went to great trouble and a bit of expense to create what I hope is a raccoon-proof entrance through my garage window. I know that three of the four cats have figured it out. I'm just not sure about DarkGray. but it's summer so if she has to stay outside all night, she'll be okay.
The first night I started locking their main entrance, I waited until they were all in the house. I think they're afraid they're going to be trapped in the house because they are nowhere to be seen when I lock up. When I wake up in the morning, Speckles is always in.
I sure hope those raccoons stop hanging around here. I pull in every bit of cat food before dark, so hopefully they'll find a better place to go soon. I was pretty freaked out when I discovered that one had come in during the night. I'm not a fan of raccoons. For two years none came in the cat doors, and then one of them finally figured it out.
