I'd be willing to contribute to that, as I'm sure other DU dog lovers would.

Right now, they're still trying to catch him. I heard back from this person tonight, who is in NC, and reposted this from a person in TN. She said the latest if that the dog is still there, coming back at dark to look for his owner.

It kind of sounds to me like he may have been a LSG (Livestock Guardian Dog), who aren't especially socialized. A good one is highly valued on farms....unless he starts going after his charges. They have to raised with stock from a puppy, you can't just throw an adult in with a bunch of sheep or goats, and expect it to know its job.

Pyr's can be standoffish with strangers until the owner tells them its okay, but it sounds like this boy is abandoned and afraid. Who knows, maybe someone just couldn't afford to feed him/her (they haven't been able to tell yet). Still no excuse for dumping him. Its a misconception that Pyr's eat a lot. No more than any other big dog. They're not real high energy.

If anyone wants to know more about the breed, just PM me.

The dog does not seem like a "socialized pet" from your description of his/her behavior. LeftInTX Dec 2020 #9
