to have them delivered weekly, so I preferred to be at her house than her at mine. They later got the choc chip cookies too. And they had a case of Coke always. My parents didn’t have junk/snack food or sodas in the house, so I’d indulge at hers.

Many decades later I was in the small town where I grew up and visited my friend’s mom, then in her 90’s. The house was exactly how it had been, with only the old Philco console TV replaced. She served me tea on pretty cups with saucers, put out little biscuits, and I said, “I remember everything, even the same family photos on the piano. You used to keep cases of coke on the floor there in the pantry, and that was a serious allure to hanging out here.”

She got up, went to the pantry door, and said “I still do” while opening it!
