2. Kerry Livgren, who wrote the song, got into a lot of trouble for it.

Livgren was a well-known, proud member of the evangelical community.

Shortly after this song was released (circa 1977) he was a guest on the 700 Club.

Pat Robertson ripped into him for writing the line "All we are is dust in the wind."

Robertson said something like, "We are God's children, not dust!"

Livgren meekly said something like, "It's just a song, Pat."

Personally, I think it's one of the greatest songs ever written, and sung by one of rock's greatest singers (Steve Walsh).

My girlfriend at the time used to rip me by singing her own version, "Dust in my eye."
