(21,146 posts)40. This late start to winter is
A fairly recent development. Used to be that it was cold and rainy by mid October, then dry and cold, with snow starting sometime in November, occasionally even in October. By December we had some snow accumulations.
But for the past decade we've been getting warm temps in the mid 70s for several days in October, and 60s in November, with occasional cold days. Real winter has been starting later and later. Then it lasts into April. It's as if the seasons are shifting.
This year the leaves didn't start turning colors until mid October and November. They didn't fall until weeks after that. Summer starts later, too, and when it's here, it's hotter than usual.
Climate change, I guess.

Luckily nothing much in Chicago. Yet. With the seasons shifting seems February is our bad time now.
