The coverage of the rental car is based on the coverage of the person who completes the form and says who will be driving.

If you're driving, and you wreck the rental, and you don't have coverage for your own car (meaning that if you wreck your own car, you're out of luck), then the rental car company will come after you. If you buy the rental car agency's supplemental insurance, then they won't come after you.

You might find that your credit card picks up the tab for supplemental coverage. Look into that first.

Once again, this is not legal advice.
