A lot of actors/actresses can be at least good in the right role. Stallone has the original Rocky and Rambo movies and Copland, Arnold has the first two Terminators, Keanu Reeves has the Bill and Ted movies etc.
I find that the director and script matter more than the actual actor. It's why I like Denzel Washington so much more in Training Day than in most of his other movies.
