About one hour south of C-ville is Amherst County. As of the 1990's, the county administration building had two sets of men's and women's rooms, with a piece of duct tape over "colored" and "white". The cemeteries are segregated. (So much for Death being the great equalizer.) And the famous eugenics case that ended up with the USSC finding that involuntary sterilization is constitutional (and still is) originated in Amherst County in the Twenties. Charlottesville is more developed and sophisticated that towns and counties. The real story of Virginia is in these burgs.
